WORTHY

I sat in our van next to her. We dropped my sister off at a school event and headed to pick up dinner. I could tell that she knew something was bothering me; she always does, because after all, she is my mom. "I'm thirsty", I said. As we sat in the McDonald's drive-thru, we began to talk. I'm not even sure what started the conversation but I began to pour my heart out. The topic of our conversation? worthiness. I told my mom that I didn't understand why God could love me, when I failed Him every single day; how He could continue to pursue me through my struggles and my weaknesses? Hot tears slipped from my eyes and my mom laced her fingers through mine. As she squeezed my hand, she said, "It's because He knows you need Him; because He loves you so much." The fact is, we are all broken and in need of a Savior. We are told by the world that if we don't own a certain car, a type of house, a brand of clothing, if we aren't a certain size, if we're single, if we don't have a college degree...then we are somehow "defective". But, what makes us broken isn't these trivial things, it's the fact that we are sinful; fallen human beings that cannot possibly even hope of saving ourselves. And the fact is, that by ourselves, we are unworthy to be in the presence of God, a holy and perfect Being. HOWEVER, Jesus Christ is our mediator. Because we are saved by Him, we are MADE worthy by His blood. We are worthy because He made us and He loves us; because He calls us His own. There is nothing we can do to make ourselves worthy; ONLY He can do that. What the world says is inconsequential because in the span of eternity, it is nothing. We are worthy and loved and important and beautiful creations of the King. Never ever forget that. All those thoughts of unworthiness we feel are whispers in our ears and hearts from the devil because He wants to scare us into believing we are nothing. But friends, we are so much more than nothing; we are heirs to the King of the universe, valuable, precious, and priceless.
